- type of internet connection
- type of modem or network card if applicable
- any other networking details if applicable (such as routers, switches, hubs)
as it is, you hav provided no information.

hm...
1. i use red hat linux 9.0
2. 56kb modem dial up connection
3. my modem is US robotics 56km v90
4. i have 3 computers. all connect to a hub.
1 is red hat 9 linux, other 1 is window 2000 server, and the last computer is window 98. i didn't use it.
i use window 2000 server play game.
5. few days ago, my whole internet connection suddenly offline and my modem off its power. it's like burn or something. i don't know why. then i turn it on and turn it off, repeatly. then the modem is up again.
6. my internet connection used to connect at 50666 speed. that's 50kb.(not bad)
7. laterly. i switch linux to window 2000 advanced server, connect to the internet, and play game. i get d/c. Maybe the modem has problem.
8. but the modem download fast.
9. i feel the computer query DNS and a bit slow.
9. how to make DNS query faster?

i have these computers at home connect to a hub:
computer 1: 2 partitions, red hat 9 linux and window 2000 advanced server (share connection to other computers)
computer 2: window 2000 advanced server
computer 3: window 98 (never use. too old)
i always use computer 1 to connect to the internet. It doesn't matter that i use red hat/window 2000(computer1) to connect to the internet, the internet connection is inconsistence because i always get d/c from the game.
but i try to use computer 2 to connecet to the internet, then i don't get disconnected. computer 2 seem better.
i guess the modem really has problem after a sudden power off. just guess -.-

You've only mentioned that you get disconnected when playing the game. Do you get disconnects when performing other online activities?

i guess the modem really has problem after a sudden power off. just guess -.- If one computer works but the other doesn't, that would indicate something besides the moodem; if the modem were faulty you should get d/c regardless of which computer you're connecting from.
- Connect the Redhat/Win2k computer directly to the modem. If you get no disconnects, you've most likely got a problem in the hub.
- If connecting directly to the modem does work, plug the computer back into the hub, but use a different port on the hub. If one port doesn't work, but the others do, you've got a bad port.
- If none of the above suggestions works, change the cable connecting the problematic machine to the hub with the cable from the working machine. If that works, you've got a bad cable.
- If even that doesn't work, you might have a faulty network card in the Redhat/Win 2k box.
- There's always the slight chance that the modem is flaky, and it's just a coincidence that it only disconnects when you're on one machine.

DMR, yea. i only mention i get disconnected from the game during the game(i mean drop out of the game), but the whole internet connection is alive. The internet connection didn't get disconnected.
i don't get disconnects when performing other online activities.
hopefully the connection gets better laterly.
Oh, in that case there's likely nothing wrong with any of your hardware; the game servers are probably just overloaded.
