Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : traceroute on a port AstroDroid 08-22-2003, 02:44 PM can I run a traceroute to a port? sploo22 08-22-2003, 02:52 PM Why would you want to? All the ports are on the same computer... and anyway, I think traceroute uses ICMP, not TCP or UDP, so it desn't even have port numbers. kshim5 08-22-2003, 02:55 PM no you cant http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man8/traceroute.8.html AstroDroid 08-22-2003, 03:04 PM my gaim for msn isn't working properly, when I'm in another location it works fine. I'm wondering where the breakdown is. for some reason I can't ping it. I can run a tracert to messenger.hotmail.com. It gets to sl-gw14-sea-7-0.sprintlink.net. before it diseappears. It looks like it's in seattle. any ideas? kshim5 08-22-2003, 03:08 PM What you need is a Potrscanner http://freshmeat.net/projects/jmap-port-scanner/?topic_id=151%2C43 or nmap http://www.insecure.org/nmap/ AstroDroid 08-22-2003, 03:39 PM Ran nmap (i don't know why I didn't think of this) port 80 is open and port 1863 is filtered. maybe they changed their ports.... So I checked out the gaim website, from today. We've had a lot of questions about whether or not Gaim will be able to connect to MSN after October 15th, which is when third party clients will apparently be blocked. For information on this, please see here. Thank you. They probably started early and stuff. Yukkkk!!!!!!! I'll probably work on getting MSN to work on wine. Thanks guys justlinux.com
