it always works in QuakeIII, sometimes in Konqueror, rarely in text editors. Is there some way to get better use of the wheel? Would running it on PS2 help? It's a Kensington, and they don't have Linux drivers for it.

Well you don't give us any idea what your Linux environment is.

If you use KDE 2x then the mouse wheel should work in all it's applications since it's supported by qt. This includes it's text editors and all that. KDE 2.2 plus Koffice 1.1 is very nice.

If you really feel like trying to get the wheel functioning with more stuff then you currently do you can play around with imwheel. If you have it installed then "man imwheel" and the config file is usually "/etc/X11/imwheelrc" otherwise you can just do a search for it.

Whether you use ps/2 or usb makes no difference.

Sorry for the thin post but I am the greenest of noobs.Mandrake 8.0, KDE. Yes, I found IMwheel and maybe I'll try it, or maybe I'll just use Konqueror instead of Netscape. Thanks.

Just for reference, Logitech wheel mice don't want to seem to work under Manrake 8.0. (KDE 2) (The wheel part of the wheel mouse doesn't want to work.) This issue seems to have been resolved in KDE 2.2.
