Does anyone know of a way to recover lost files from a dos partition??

Sounds odd, i know, but i cant do it from within windows coz, well, i accidentally deleted every single file on my windoze partition....

That in itself wouldn't be so bad (after all, i only installed it yesterday), but i have in the region of 200megs of MP3s on there ...

PLEASE let there be some way to recover them!!!

200mb of mp3 is really nothing... in the big picture.

Something like Norton's utilities may be able to do it, but I think you are SOL...

Got money? Data recoverys service could probably get it back for a hefty fee. Also there are snoop progs out that can read old files even if the partion has been formatted, they could probably do it, but I don't know of any names. Also my understanding is that some files are going to be corrupted.

Yeah, i know 200megs of MP3s isnt much, but at the moment i was meant to be burning them to a cd, not trying to recover them from oblivion!!! :)

Even if anyone knows of a DOS based undelete thing (that works on a VFAT fs - the old dos undelete i have doesn't seem to like it)...

Ok i deserve to be kicked off this board for that one...

Norton Utilities for Windows has a couple of file recovery/unerase functions which might get some of the data back. I think the package comes both with a bootable CD and emergency/rescue floppies.

Go here: http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/

In the ' Search For ' box enter the word ' undelete ', then click on ' GO '. You'll get a list of programs that you can download and try out. Maybe one of these will work for you and you don't have to pay for it unless you keep it.

You did ask... Then I would suggest you search the web for free undelete tools.

just so's u no, i downloaded 'directory snoop', as advised by some1 who's name has escaped me at the minute. Yeah, its for windows, but i gave up hope of recovering anything from linux with any great ease pretty quick...

So i reinstalled WinME, then installed DS, and lo-and-behold the MP3s were still there :) I managed to retrieve 80megs, which isnt bad

aaah ... happy now
