Greetings! I recently completed a Debian installation on my PC. Everything went fine, but unfortunately I have hit one rather interesting snag.

Every time I try to start a the xserver (using startx) it bombs out with the following error:

Total Memory: 2048 64Kb banks (128M)
(EE) VESA(0): No matching modes
(II) UnloadModule: "vesa"
(II) UnloadModule: "ddc"
(II) UnloadModule: "int10"
(II) UnloadModule: "vbe"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I have tried running xf86config and I'm positive I entered all the right values. I even dug out the manuals that came with my system and double checked. I am using the vesa driver even though I have an NVIDIA Geforce 4 card because the nv driver has issues with my LCD monitor.

I have attached the xserver log file to this post. Any ideas? I would appreciate any help I can get.

might want to try using the binary drivers that nvidia provides.
