Okay this is a completely stupid newbie question, but I`ve looked on the
manual and google, just can`t seem to understand it.
I've just installed Mandrake 8.1 as my first experiment with Linux. I want to install the sound driver for my card (aureal vortex). Looked
around and found it, downloaded it, opened it up. The readme says to
"change to the driver directory and become root." I change to
the
driver directory that has been created (/home/ktabb/downloads/aureal),
type
su (and my password), and then to type "make install" When I
do,
I get the following:
bash: make: command not found
manual says no entry for make
After looking around on the net, saw something about having to type
"./configure" first. Here too, I get a no command found.
I`ve tried to run "make" and/or "./configure" in a
number of different directories including root, and get the same thing.
What am I doing wrong?
