I'm trying to setup network printing on an ethernet and have tried connecting through SAMBA to no avail. I'm a newbie to this and don't know if I can just use IP addresses for Share, Server, and User, and if I have to have a password. I'm not on a Workgroup. Can someone please tell me what format I need to use for these menu fill-ins?
Thanks:confused:
What's your hardware setup?
Is the printer a network printer or local to the linux server?
Are you printing thru win or linux clients?
There are many posts regarding samba printing on this site.

I'm running Redhat Linux 9 on a Dell Latitude laptop with no peripherals connected, basic configuration, 1.6 MHz, 512 Mb, on a university network that I believe uses Windows 2000 servers (as well as Mac servers, with interconnecting networks, but the printer is on the Windows ethernet). I think I've found something that says I have to know the name of the server, name of printer, though I don't know if IP address will do, name of user or default, and password if necessary. I'm trying to get the name of the server and printer (if there is one) from our IT department.
Sorry, I though you were setting up a network.
I've never printed from Linux to a Windows shared printer but you IT group is the place to start.
good luck.
