I have just installed Mandrake 8 without many problems really, but these fonts are about unreadable. I have tried to change them but to no avail. I can barely read what I am writing here. I am running an Abit bh6 MB, with 128 memory, with an Asus Gforce ddr 32 meg video on a Mag XJ770 monitor w/sblive and a linksys 10/100 lan, with a PIII 550. TIA

They are unreadable because they are too small?
Edit your /etc/XF86Config file.
Find the lines that say "FontPath." Put the line like this:
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/
at the top of the list. There may be other lines that say 100dpi as well. Move those to the top of the list too.

There is no xf86config file anywhere. I did a search when I couldn.t find it.

If you'd like to change your kde fonts, Kmenu->Configuration->KDE-LookNfeel->Fonts.
If you'd like to change your Konqueror, Settings->Configure Konqueror->Konqueror Browser->Appearance.
The default font settings are horrible, everyone knows this. I haven't tried 8.1 as I'm still waiting for it to get out of beta but I hope this has been improved.
With some tweaking you can however have your fonts all look perfect. You can also import windows fonts if you'd like, just run the control center link on the desktop.
If you really feel the need to play with your XF86Config file it's either /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 depending on whether you're using XFree86 version <4 or 4+. "xdpyinfo | head" will tell you if you're not sure. Don't forget Linux is case sensitive.

It's not "xf86config", it's "XF86Config".
