Please help! x 03-15-2001, 06:19 AM I haven't used ME, but since no-one has answered yet I'll tell you what I can: To boot with loadlin you need to get to DOS. In Win98 you can 1) Press <F8> when booting, you then get a menu & can choose "MS-Dos only". 2) Startmenu (in Windows) -> shutdown, you have an alternative to go to DOS. 3.) Edit msdos.sys: change ".. GUI=1" to "...GUI=0". Now you don't get Windows automatically, have to type <win> to boot windows. I don't know if this works with ME too, if it doesn't & DOS is not included then you can't use loadlin (Maybe you could install DOS in a separate partition, reinstall WinME and hope you get an option to boot DOS.) jscott 03-15-2001, 10:39 AM Originally posted by x: Press <F8> when booting, you then get a menu & can choose "MS-Dos only". This does not work with Me. MS is trying to convince users MSDOS is dead and gone. F8 will allow you to boot into safe mode, but not much else. What you should do is make a linux boot floppy -- for this an many other reasons ;) If you are starting with a empty dive, install WinMe first. Then install Linux and LILO. This will let you get LILO in the MBR and Linux/Windows can be friends again. Eclipse 03-15-2001, 10:41 AM For step by step instructions in installing LoadLin to work with Windows ME, go to the following URL: http://www.linux.sh legaviu 03-15-2001, 11:25 AM Using the diskmanager from your disdrive provider (eg Uset DM for quantum drives, EZsetup for Caviar or Maxtor, etc. You can download the driver from the webpage of the manufacturer). Now partition your drive with the diskmanager in such a way that you leave at least 2 gigs for Linux. The first partition must be for Windows. Install Windows ME. Install Linux (in the second partition), use grub instead of lilo. :) (done this.. it works) justlinux.com
