How do you make your desktop look good (GNOME/KDE)?
Any special themes? Custom work? Can you give a link/pic?
This is differnt from the other threads since im asking how you did it.

I am a KDE guy. I use kde-look.org. The themes and such all have their own prospective installation instructions. GDM's are easy enough. Keep the file as it is, and install it through the login screen app.
Thinking about it, they're all really easy to install. My desktop is unique because I don't like the stock look.

I use Rat Poison (http://ratpoison.sourceforge.net), and I think my desktop looks great, meaning the applications I use, of course.
I have no toolbars, no icons, no applets, no start menu, no desktop image, no icons... not even frames around my "windows."
It's pretty radical, but now that I'm used to it, I don't think I could go back. My last farewell to the Windows world was changing my whole notion of a "desktop." My windows take up the whole screen, though I can split it up into smaller sectors if I need to for some reason. I switch between windows with keyboard shortcuts, which is a lot faster than clicking. In fact, I usually never have to take my hands off the keyboard at all, unless I'm browsing with Mozilla, and even then I use the awesome keyboard controls.
Don't get me wrong... I've used Gnome 1 and 2, KDE 2 and 3, Openbox and Fluxbox, and I really like aspects of these programs (especially the *boxes). I wouldn't give up the clean simplicity of Rat Poison, however. As a side bonus, I no longer spend hours tweaking my desktop environment, getting it "just right." That can be fun, but at some point you just need to work on something. :-)
This is just a contrarian perspective on your original question. For a classic discussion, see this guy (http://freshmeat.net/articles/view/581/). Have fun with your tweaking, but don't be afraid to rethink it all.

By how you did it i didnt mean installation, I ment if you mixed anything together. Like a theme and a icon set or something.

Hey, thanx for the sites ppl, have always wanted to have different sets of icons and themes.
As for your question mart_man00, I guess you'd need to install the icon and theme set separately, not sure tho since this would be my first try.
