Gnome or KDE? why would I use one over the other?

I'm curious as to what the differences between Gnome and KDE are. Besides the look, I can't tell.

Matter of preference. Oh...yeah...there's technical issues, and things like that...but...it's all basically the same deal. (I'm going to get nailed for that one.)

Use what you feel comfortable with. That's how you should do things.

both have good points and bad points but dont listen to anyone until you've tried both then comment on it as then they can argue with or against you.

I've used both, and I like gnome myself, but I have kde set up for my kids as it provides a more consistent interface for the kids between my computer and their mothers and the schools.
Though my 6 year old son doesn't seem to mind so long as he can find his games -- and yes, he does have favorites in linux as well as windows, and knows the difference between the two.
