ok the soundcard is..
82801AA AC`97 Audio
and the module is i810 audio
ok.. i think the sound is more like radio static..
but it's really loud and pretty slow.. and nothing like what it should sound like..
sigh.. i dont know what the heck the problem is..
it finds the sound card alright, sets it alright, but the sound coming out isn't right.. but it works good in windows xp..

Sounds like a kernel/module bug. I'm using the same type of card/driver in Gentoo and have no troubles.

I've seen similar threads posted here on 'slow' and 'static' related sound problems, BUT I cannot remember what the solution was. You can try searching the JL forums for 'i810 sound' etc. to see if you can find anything to help.
Are the correct modules loaded?
lsmod (list loaded modules)
PnP OS disabled in the bios?
Power Management also disabled in the bios as that 'could' be the cause. ??
Tried different sound mixers?
