I've been reading a bit about Gentoo, and seeing as how I've had some difficulty compiling stuff in Red Hat, I was thinking of using that distro on my new machine (getting it in a couple of months) The problem is that I am going to be using a High Point Rocket RAID 1540 as my (SATA) HDD controller, and High Point only offers drivers for Red Hat, SuSE, and FreeBSD. Does anyone know if Gentoo supports this controller? Or will I have to use an IDE HDD to use Gentoo?
While I can't guarantee that it'll work, generally if it works for one distribution, it will work for the rest as long as you use the Linux kernel.

So there wouldn't be any trouble using the SuSE driver with Gentoo?

So there wouldn't be any trouble using the SuSE driver with Gentoo? Correct. You may need to manually copy the module into /lib/modules/kernel-version/, though.
