Is there a difference in the software you can use on linux for the PPC and X86.

the kernel is the kernel, just compiled for different computer architechtures...

obviously there is enough of a difference between the operating code for both intel and apple to warrant a recompiled type...

Otherwise, in terms of features, no, not really...

I don't think that you can get much close source software for linux ppc. companies don't want to recompile their software...

ok now i'm confused...

say i wnat to install ... something like Koffice or StarOffice....

would i need a different version for ppc and X86? i alwasy thought linux was linux...

you need a ppc version.

the machine language is different. most things compile fine on either one.

some things though may only compile on 386.
