after upgrading my kernal to 2.4.5 i am having trouble booting it up. Getting error messages like root=/ incorrect. I guess I have to go back to set up my lilo.conf but i have to get to failsafe mode since i cant boot up the kernel, how do i do it?

Do you have an emergency boot disk? you can use that to boot up with to fix the problem or if you can boot from your cdrom put the 1st disk in and follow the on screen instructions to boot a kernel so that you can fix your problem -eg with mandake I put the cd in press f1 and type rescue
with debian i just have to type rescue at the prompt.
if you have no boot disk and the cdrom drive isn't bootable then there are some mini distro's that fit on a disk that give you all the tools neaded to fix what you have to.
Hal91 is very good. it uses pico as its editer :)

Type '<label> failsafe' at the lilo prompt. You can also add the line append=" failsafe" to the appropriate section in lilo.conf to make it boot to failsafe automatically.
