You have to own windows. Anything else is considered a threat.

ahh... I give up

I believe somone was talking about WinAmp for Linux on these forums somwhere so I assume it's available. You can try Xmms as an alternative it seems to work ok and you can tons of plugins for it.

I'm assuming that hda1 has windows installed on it so just goto /mnt/ directory within that directory there will be subdirectories for your: cdrom,
floppy, windows (what your looking for) etc.

Basically you can have support for most any type of file system and most distros will create create you a mount point to each one automatically.

There is an alpha of winamp from nullsoft avaliable at http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/Winamp-0.a1-1.tgz

I couldnt get it to work though.

you may be missing libraries
in the winamp dir, run ldd ./Winamp.exe

Actually, Xmms works very well.

XMMS is GREAT! It's almost exactly like Winamp and yes, it does contain quite a few plug-ins...some of which are actually useful!

Another mp3 player alternative is MusicMatch for Linux. I've tried it...can't say that I like it though. Needs some work yet. But they're on the right track.

For your mp3 question, yes...you can access them off of your Windows partition. In fact, all of my mp3's are in the Windows Partition yet. (By the end if the year I should have Windows completely out of my system). If you're using XMMS, all you have to do is select add file or directory, navigate to /mnt/win_c/ and then you should be able to find your mp3's by searching your "C:\" drive.

Have fun!

That Alpha version works but it will crash and crash and crash ,,, AND CRASH.

The windows beta version is far more stable and it really shows what the new winamp can do. To bad to see that this company tends to support MS.

And another thing, XMMS will work fine but it's a clone of winamp. On the other hand the new winamp uses a new type of skins, that means, old ones don't work. XMMS will follow in that direction showing how much their team love winamp and .. its cloning.

There is no need to hit xmms when there is winamp for linux. xmms will just be another clone of it. I would suggest to the xmms team to follow another direction, not the cloning procedure for once more..

Implementing video into it would be a great step.

I disagree. I think Xmms should continue where they're going. Having an alternative is always a good thing because the original may not be as good. Think about it. Netscape for Linux sucks, which is why people use other browsers. So does Mirabilis' Java ICQ, which is why licq is more popular than it, even though it is just a clone. I say they should compete. At the moment Xmms is the more mature when it comes to the Linux platform, and the most stable.

Was it just my imagination? I thought Xmms already played movies... i put some movies in my playlist and when it got to one it just popped up a window and played the movie....

in order for Xmms to play movie files I believe you have to install a plugin...Sorry I don't know the name but try www.freshmeat.net. (http://www.freshmeat.net.)
