Explore2fs (http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs.htm)

You already have the ability to do this (unless for some odd reason, you don't have the mount command installed). I will be simple about it. Type this each time you want to read the win98 partition, as root:

mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/win

You must already have a directory called /mnt/win (type mkdir /mnt/win if you don't). Then surf the /mnt/win directory all you want.

YES, there is. It's called ex2fs Explorer. You can find it here: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux

The surprising thing is, it really works well.

Hmm.. what do you mean by "vice versa"? Of course you can read FAT32(sucks) on Linux. Most precompiled kernels will do that and if yours can't read FAT/FAT32 then recompile your kernel using the desired options in the partinions menu.

If you use any of those program, keep in mind, there is still a chance you could seriously mess up your ext2 Filesystem. They're trying to do somthing windows wasn't designed to do, and there is probably a few bugs left that are potential file system killers.

That's true, take your chances especially if you try that new beta win NT driver for ext2. But honestly, using the explorer for more than a month no problems arised. Of course keep in mind I tested it only on win2000/XP.

ps. Other inferior "OSes" like winME would damage your disks anyway so you're free to test it there :P
