Where to begin..easiest place would be my USB 250 Zip drive. I downloaded the drivers from Iomega's site and attempted to decipher the help files associated with it. Any help would be appriciated. I'm using Drake 7.2 with KDE 2.0.

Ok since it is USB, Mandrake's distributed kernel has a hack for some USB in it. However, if you want good USB support, upgrade to kernel 2.2.18 or for full blownsupport for USB, upgrade to kernel 2.4 and then you may find your USB zip drive will work.

o learn how to compile a kernel, tere is an NHF on this site that tells you how. However it is not updated for kernel 2.4 (I don't think)

Good luck.

If you are going to upgrade your kernel to 2.4.0, e-mail me and i will help you out.( there are things in the INSTALL file of 2.4.0 that are not applicable to Drake 7.2.)

Arrite. I'm also trying to get Samba working so I'll have a net connection. Does 7.2 come with Samba already installed? I've just gotten instructions how to set it up.

This is the irony of my situation. I've got a cable connection running through an NT box. I have no internet. In order to get Samba working I need to have my Zip working, or to get a 'net connection. I downloaded the Zip drivers from Iomega's site and haven't figured out how to get .tar files working yet and their instructions aren't overly helpful. Any NHF's on that?

Try "man tar". Yes, drake does come with samba installed. I'm afraid I can't help you with using it though because I have no reason to set up mine :(. No need to download it though. Try typing "gnomba" at the terminal. Gnomba is a samba GUI which would conceivably be a good starting point, and if you've installed the Gnome packages, gnomba should be there. If not, I have no idea cause I'm not a samba user.

I'm not sure if I installed Gnome or not. When I go do a shutdown and it takes me to the Root or user screen I can select KDE, IceWV (or something like that), console, and some other option. I've tried to configure it from KDE but some of the options on there are odd. I've set up a few windoze boxed for networking and the KDE network config is unlike anything I've ever seen.
