G'day!,
goal: Install kde3.1.3 on my system (redhat 9)
edited: /etc/apt/sources.list.

I would like to add the following url to sources.list so that I can upgrade kde without dependancy issues.

ftp://download.au.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1.3/RedHat/9/i386/

I don't get the man page sorry. So please in laymen terms can someone explain how to update the config file: /etc/apt/sources.list and what I should type in it.

thanks in advance,

Atif

unless red hat's version of apt is much odder than i thought, that would not be an apt repository. they normally have a packages file in there.

I use apt-get for Red Hat & the only things that I have ever found are RPM packages. I know the rpm's aren't available for 7.3, but I have the source fiiile & I'm still having trouble installing it. Apt-get for Red Hat is pretty much only usefull for installing RPM packages.

right. i know that. what im saying is that the reposit that he is trying to use does not seem to be one that apt can use. it seems to be more just a directory of rpms.

strath is correct. this is an example of an apt4rpm resptiory ftp://ftp.au.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/9.
and apt4rpm does not work quite like Debian it was not setup that way eg you can not update to a new version of kde with apt. (at least not yet;) )
