Is your network up?

Could you please post the output of "/sbin/ifconfig"?

Apparently your ethernet has not started properly. su as root and then type:

/sbin/ifup eth0

I hope that helps.

At the risk of sounding like a twit....

I have to ask... have you tried rebooting?
I've found this to help when working with hardware.

Just a thought--------------------

i says it failed
ask for more information
when i open my mandrak control panel
type:lan
gateway:255.255.255.0

lan configuration: (left to right) icon of adapter(appears to hardwire), interface eth0, ip ad blank, (should i expert put in?), driver tulip, state up

platoj,

One thing I noticed is that you're loading the tulip drive, which is probably left over from your Ethernet NIC. If you have a line in your /etc/modules.conf file which refers to the tulip driver, delete it.

For the wireless card, you'll need to get the wireless drivers. There are a few different versions out there and which one you need depends on the chipset that you're version of wmp55ag card uses. You might find that information in the output of the "lspci" command, or by looking in /proc/pci. Try some of the results of this Google search (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=linksys+wifi+drivers&btnG=Google+Search) for more information.

Also, in one of your posts you indicated that you entered 255.255.255.0 for your Gateway IP. That's almost certainly incorrect; that IP is more likely your subnet mask. The gateway IP should be the IP address of the device which connects you to the Internet.

Scratch the "almost," it's impossible. 255 is reserved for the broadcast, and 0 for the network address, so it has to be your netmask.

i do not need tulip, ok, i went to the manufacatures site, they are telling me to install tulip into my kernel, this is wrong!

is that what your telling me!
just want to be sure!
i did google search join seven new sites signed up,
stll no driver!

but i will continue to search.

one would think the manufacture would provide a driver on their site, or i guess there are only a hand full of people using linux operating systems.

wow, apples airport was not this hard, it took me maybe twenty minutes. i have forty hours in this, but why give up now.

still having fun.

From what I could find about you particular model of Linksys WIFI card, I saw no reference to the tulip driver, although to be honest, I found very little info on that card to begin with. If you do need the tulip driver, I'm sure that's not all you need; I'll repost when I find more info.

i will try to use this i do not know if it will work, moreover, i never download and install an application on mandrake 8.2 or any linux os, but it is a new day and i have my command book at my side, so i will take the tar balls and try to come out smelling like a rose.

i guess it could be said that going to the mandrak control center without a driver installed is without purpose, other than wasting time.

i think that via technology is oem on this prodcut sold by linksys. i sign up to there site as well, now that is eight places to look.

thanks 4 pointing me in the right direction.

i guess i need to decide on a driver!

one that will work with my linsys hardware!

my google searches are leading me in the following direction!

http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Orinoco.html#download

i wonder if anyone has use this drive successfully on lindsys equipment!

i guess it works on some chipsets, and it is my understand that different chips set may be used by sales companies such as linksys. so the same product from linksys could possibly not have the different chipset inside. but only have the same housing.
