Did you at least try searching the JL forums for 'ALS4000' (http://justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=696528&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) and if so, did none of those threads help you at all?

What did you do to install those alsa drivers? Does sound work when you log in as root? What distro are you using?

Development packages and kernel-source installed?

Please search the JL forums for 'development kernel-source' if you require additional info.

Doesn't do anything??? What do you mean? You get a new line with no output? It spits out some text for a while and your sound still doesn't work? Do you get an error?

I am on AIM, but I think we should keep the discussion here for a couple reasons:

1. I'm not as smart as I look ;)
2. Anyone who has this problem in the future can get help from searching.

the ALSA drivers work with redhat (i had them working with 8).. you just have to do the all te packages and not just the drivers... it does take a while...

alternatively, you could try Mandrake which takes care of all that for you ;)
