Diamond pro Modem under MDK9.1

Can anyone throw light on this problem for me? I am trying to replace Suse 8.1 with MDK 9.1. All is fine but for one problem. I cannot get my Diamond pro external modem to be recoqnised when scanning for hardware even though this modem worked great with Suse 8.1. Infact I don't thik the port is beening seen at all.I do not have any other seriel devices. Everything else seems fine and if I could get this working I will be all set. Any help most welcome by this poor struggling beginner!
