I’m trying to dual boot Win XP and Red hat 9. I used partition Magic 8.0. And I used boot magic. When I select Red hat from the menu I get this message. Machine is preparing to load Red Hat 9. It won’t go any farther than that. Should I just delete that partition and create a new one then reinstall Linux?

Since you are using 3rd party bootloader (BootMagic) did you ensure that the Linux bootloader (Lilo or Grub) is installed in the Linux boot/root partition?
Every operating system requires a bootloader whether it's installed in the mbr or the operating systems boot/root or system partition (Windows).
Is BootMagic pointing to the correct boot/root partition for Redhat?

I would just reccomend using the boot loader built in with RH9- it makes things much easier that way, and generally adds all the partitions you need to boot into.

In any case you are just trying to protect your Windows XP, just install the boot loader on the MBR, no worries. If you want to take away RH9, just go to recovery console with your Windows XP cd and do a MBR recovery and you are back to where you started off.

You will need to configure the Grub config (/boot/grub/grub.conf ?? for Redhat) and then run
grub-install /dev/hda
to install Grub in the mbr.

You should look at the other 10 Redhat boot threads in this forum, they all have problems you may encounter and can use their solution. Good luck.
Good to see MD back- now the sun rises in the East again.

:D
I was away for 6 days as I finally got around to replacing my main HD, video card & added dual monitors. Had to extend and brace the table for the extra weight and then after the hardware was installed, none of the case and cpu fans would work. That plus the almost 100% humidity the last week, it took a bit of time to figure out what power connectors I had rewired incorrectly.
At least I'm running with the dual monitors though in Vesa mode as the FX5600 is not supported by the version of X I have and I forgot to find all the specs for the 5600 and Viewsonic monitors I needed to manually configure X.
