How do I find where to type the commands?

Ok I'm going to assume a few things here:

#1, you're very new to the linux world.
#2, you're using something like mandrake.
#3, you're starting in X(GUI).

If(and most likely) that this is the case, open one of the following "terminals":

gnome-terminal
konsole
aterm
xterm
eterm

Those are basically the terminal's that are well-known to myself, I'm sure that if you have mandrake installed that it'll have every single terminal and then some, because that's the way they like to be.

Anyways, I hope this helps you out a bit. Keep learning :)

Why would you assume he is using Mandrake? Other distro you can set the default to load X? I did it with Red Hat. Just find out where you do it in Mandrake, and apply it to Redhat or any other distro of linux.

It was only 'for example if you are using Mandrake, then you have a choice of these terminals'. At least that's how I read it to be.
