I decided to configure KVoice until I discovered it was not installed with Mandrake 7.1 (my copy at least).
I then decided to use Ksendfax until I found out it was a front end for Fetchmail which looks like an enterprise class program I do not want to have to play with.
I have a copy of drake 7.0 which should have KVoice on it.
Are there any known problems installing it to 7.1 or should I be looking for a different prog for 7.1?
Thanks

Have you checked Mandrakes ftp servers for a version of KVoice specific to 7.1?
Or try rpmfind (http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpmfind/) and it might list a version for Mandrake 7.1.

Here is a good link for a lot of information.
About half way down the page she talks about
Modems and Faxing.
I don't know if this is what you need but it can't hurt.
Good Luck,

Thanks again. Found Kvoice for drake 7.2, will check my install CD to see if there is a specific 7.1 version first. If it all goes pear shaped I will try Efax from teeitup's link.

I'm running mandrake 7.0 for my everyday use.
I had problems using both Kvoice and Ksendfax
so I tried efax . Documentaion is very good, and the website has a link for xfax which is
a GUI for efax. You have a choice with xfax as to using the xforms library. I chose not to use it.
With xfax you can preview your fax before sending, print your fax, add a coverpage, monitor the log file while sending (great for any problems), and maintain an address book.
The only problem is that xfax does not receive a fax. For that I use efax on the command line.
Check out the man page for efax. It has everything you need.
The real pain in the butt is not having a fax machine right beside you to see the results.
You have to know your modems capabilities as far as fax mode is concerned.
