Red Hat 6.2
Sure there are better stuff out there, like FreeBSD, but for the total newbie, it doesn't get much easier then rh6.2.

your site doesn't really say much, but my guess: your setting up a lan! basicly any distro will work, i normally suggest mandrake to newbies, but since your using your lin box as a gateway (i think) it would be better to not use graphical mode by default (mandrake is all about graphical mode [i think, i never used it much]). If you are quite newbish, i would also suggest redhat 6.2 That was the first distro i really tried, and i only left it for debian because rhat 7.0 sucked so much.
P.S. debian is really sweeeet, but if you have almost no linux experience, dont go for it.

Redhat 6.2 on all the Linux Boxes. I have some exp on setting p linux. I have a Drake7.2 box as a firewall right now. Maybe since I know that i should use that instead of redhat..... If Debian is a better choice for lets say my mail server let me know. I will get it installed instead. I have installed it once via an FTP install. I just want everything to be secure and functional. Do to every detail.

I'd go with Red Hat 6.2 or maybe 7.0 with fixes on all the boxes. You could even make ONE box a combined server, and leave the others for clients? It is putting all your eggs in one basket, but would leave you with the others "free" of extraneous tasks.
Good luck!

OpenBSD 2.8
detects lots of hardware, pretty easy to set up, and it's VERY secure.

If you've set up a linux box before, I'd suggest Debian. The install ain't pretty and it's considerably more difficult than a RH install, but it installs in 35 megs. You apt-get whatever else you need. If they're dedicated server boxes, you're just gonna need the server. Apt-get install apache. Done and done. No reducing bloat, or dealing with RH's quirky directory structure :)
<edit>If you're gonna use another distro, don't use Drake. It's meant for the desktop and while it CAN be a server, it's not the best. RH 6.2 is pretty much what you want to make it, and RH is IDENTICAL to Mandrake. That's if you don't decide to go for Debian. Debian sweet :) Great server.

Debian may be the way I go since I have installed it before once. Did play around with apt get at all though. Is the MTA (mail deamon) easy to set up.?.?. I havent set up a mail server before. Also... the reason for the multiple boxes is just for my own exp. I would rather have everything on different boxes and set up ipchins to forward everythin accordingly. Thanx everyone.

For the Firewall gateway I would suggest either, Coyote Linux (http://www.coyotelinux.com/) or MandrakeSecurity/cookfire (http://www.mandrakeforum.com/article.php?sid=717&mode=thread&order=0).
The server could be most anything, so I would suggest whatever distro you are most familiar with. Just another option for mail, check out postfix.

I'm using a new Distro/Firewall now that you may find interesting it's called smoothwall, and can be found a www.smoothwall.org. (http://www.smoothwall.org.) It is ready out of the box with NAT, support for multiple private or public internal LAN sections, port forwarding and DHCP, as well as a *really* slick admin interface, runs with ipchains, and kernel 2.2.16. Weighs in at a mere 43Meg, OS and firewall, sweet package. :D Give it a try, From install to an internal client machine surfing the net, it was 20 minutes of setup.
