What is the general purpose(do not answer with "to supply power" I figured that part out already)? I mean I see all these different kinds and whats the difference? Saving power? Im looking to make a pc and was researching and was just wondering.
the main differences in power supplies are going to be how many watts and how quiet it is.
depending on how much hardware you are going to be putting into the box, you may need a higher or lower wattage in your power supply.
the more expensive power supplies tend to be quieter.

That just about summs it up but one more thing of course is if the power supply will be suitable for your MB ie at, atx, output voltages etc. Wattage is very important for being able to supply power to your devices but compatability will define if it works or blows something up....
