I just dloaded Staroffice 6.0 beta, and it is a .bin. I'm new to linux, and I was wondering how do you install it?

*sigh*

Here's one that was answered this morning with a link to one that was answered yesterday. (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=005752)

It just saves you from having to wait for someone to answer if you search or quickly review the last day of posts in the appropriate forum.

I agree, and I appreciate the reply; however, I looked in the how-to documentation that came with Linux, and easily I could not find anything on installation of a .bin file.

I realize I should have searched through the forum, but I disagree with the man pages. Searching through all the man pages for something as broad a .bin would be tough and quite time consuming.

Plus, if I knew what command to use it would have been much nicer.

This was my reply. I don't see anything there that says lookup how to install a .bin in the man pages.

No, but it is in your sig.

I'll have to add an exclusion list to it.

Your the first to take it to mean every single answer can be found in the man pages.

Sorry to confuse you and I hope you didn't waste too much of your time searching through all of your local documentation for it.

My sig was/is only meant to get some of the members used to the idea of searching for answers. You'll get a lot further in life if you don't always go running to someone whenever you have a question. I firmly believe it's a good habit to get into. I wouldn't be able to keep my job very long if I did that.

Your point is well taken, I got confused. Had a long, rough, and tiresome day yesterday. My eyes are still a bit weary from the long night. I apologize for coming off so short. You know how it is when you don't get enough sleep, and you had a rough night (hangover). When you can't get something done quick and easy, it gets to you. Guess that is one of the downfalls in learning a new OS. Should have known that from the start. However, no reason to get discourage, I will just move on. Got StarOffice installed. Works great! Never used it before, so I did not know what to expect.

Question though, it said it would update KDE and add something to the panel. I am assuming it was supposed to add a shortcut to my panel with StarOffice, well, I can't seem to find it. Looked through every ICON, maybe I'm blind, or need a really big nap.

No problem. I know how you feel. I've had a bad cold for 2 weeks now, have had 1 day off in the last 3 weeks and I felt so bad on Friday that I barely made it home and then fell asleep at 7 p.m. waking at 8 a.m.

I usually sleep 6-7 hours a night. Because of that 13 hours sleep, I couldn't sleep AT ALL last night and have now been up since 8 a.m. Saturday. Damn damn damn. PC turning off in a few minutes as I've had enough of LNO for the past 16 hours.

Sorry I needed to get that out.

I haven't installed StarOffice since version 5.2 though I do remember it created a menu item in KDE.

Does SO 6 still allow you to do a network install and then run the installer for each user? If so, then it must be the user install that creates the shortcuts.

I don't think that's in the man pages. ;) ;)

Have a good night.
