:confused: you seem to have answered your own question, XP with be on the hdax with ntfs or vfat :confused:

do you have any hda*'s missing, when you output fdisk -l
(example)
hda1 = boot
hda3 = swap
hda4 = root
(so hda2 must be you XP partition)
or can you post your output?

hi ven0m

Sorry, my msg should have read "fdisk -l doesn't list XP"

fdisk -l /dev/hd* return:

/dev/hda1 = swap
/dev/hda2 = linux

HTH

If you only have one HD, then that would be the problem as likely your Windows partition(s) are gone.

Does

fdisk -l /dev/hda

show all the space on the HD being used for hda1 and hda2?

Hi mdwatts,

No , "fdisk -l" only shows the space located to linux(5 gig) i.e total disk 35 gig, 5 gig linux and 30 XP

Thanks

So does it show a fat32/ntfs partition?

Could you please post the results of

fdisk -l /dev/hda

unless it is the same as you previously posted.

If the Windows partitions do not show, then I would assume they are gone and all that remains is free space.

Hello mdwatts,

The result of "fdisk -l" returns as previously posted i.e hda1 =swap and hda2 = linux. There are no listing for fat32 or ntfs partition.

So, it looks like its gone! Oh, well back to the drawing board!

Thanks for ur time

:)

I would say they are gone since they do not show in 'fdisk -l /dev/hda'.

Perhaps contact the 'someone' that did the install for you and ask if/why they removed the Windows partitions.

Hello mdwatts,

The "someone" was a member of our I.T department trying out linux (SuSe 8.2) for the first time! It looks like he deleted the partition by accident.

Thanks for your help and time

I hope you had backups. Seems like "someone" would've tried it on their own computer first.
