For some (stupid) reason, when I double click an MP3 in RH7, it plays with mpg123. Thing is, I don't have a clue how to stop it once it starts. I skimmed the man pages and couldn't find a switch that will cause it to stop playing.
Anyone?

You could just kill the task: In a terminal type ps ax|grep mpg123 and then type kill PID (PID being the number from the grep output).
You can also edit the MIME types to have xmms or freeamp play mp3 files when you double click on a file. This way a player pops up and you can stop it whenever you want. Depending on what desktop enviroment or file browser you use there are various places to change the default settings. Just browse through the menus and look for it.

You could also use killall mpg123 which will kill all (duh ;)) instances of mpg123...

Mandrake 7.2 has a nifty desktop icon in KDE that kills any app. You click on the icon, and the click the app you want killed, and it kills the app. Not sure if this icon is in any other windows managers.
I haven't played with redhat since 6.1, so I'm not sure what they offer.
Only proplem is if you click the desktop or any part of your windows manager, and it kills that also! All the icons dissappear, and the task bar goes away. Usually leaves me with nothing but a blue screen. blue being the default background. Kinda like a BSOD!! (Blue Screen Of Death)

Well I'd first download XMMS (www.xmms.org), and install that. Then change the default player for mp3's to XMMS. That way you have a nice lil graphical program that you can do things to the Mp3, not to mention XMMS is really really cool. :)
But if you want to stop it via the command line, Im sure mpg123 has a way to stop it with a command line switch.

While I would have liked to remove my profile and personal information from LinuxNewbie.org, I am not permitted to do so. While I have contacted internet.com for the abuse from the administration at linuxnewbie.org I have to wait for any further action. I used to do the popular posts for Pretty Fonts in Netscapes which was closed to because of Derek who goes under the username "Neurotica". They also have a habit of sabotaging your member ratings so becareful of that. You can learn more about that by visiting my web site or calling me at home. That information is in my signature.

Umm.. Don't mean to sound rude Ami, but why did you post that in this thread...? There are better places for such rants. :)
BTW, why do care so much about what someone on this board thinks of you? I don't look at member ratings when replying to someone's message (assuming it's a 'mature' message). And I also don't care about a member's ratings when he/she gives me useful information.
Who cares if some bozo lamer is bugging you.. Just ignore him. He (I'm assuming it's a he because of your other posts) isn't ruining YOUR reputation on this board, only securing his rank (that is 'an idiot').
Just be yourself and everyone will see you for that, not your (sabotaged) rank.
