Yes, it's true. I got a blue screen in linux.

Of course, it was right after I set kde to have a blue background. ;)

It's actually possible. Users of xscreensaver must be familiar with the "BSOD" screensaver. You can also get a "sad mac" :-D

Heh, funny you should mention that.

I didn't realize just how many BSODs it actually is able to emulate. I set it up as my screensaver, and I turned my back away for about 10 minutes. When I turned around, it was showing a Linux kernel panic screen, and it looked like it was formatting my drives!!!

I nearly panicked. But then, I hit the <Shift> key for a second, and my desktop was back to normal. Suddenly I felt silly for leaving a puddle underneath my chair. ;)

Actually, I love the BSOD screensaver, but I stopped using it since my roomie was trying to be helpful and hit the reboot button on my box when I was gone for a sec. :D

I love the BSOD screensaver!!!

It was funny one time, when my now ex-wife called me at work all upset because
"something wierd" happened to my computer.

She then proceeded to describe an nt dump screen to me that just happened to
be on the screen. I started laughing, and told her that I'ld take care of it
when I got home!

So when I got home, naturally the bsod had changed to a different one, and I
showed her how to fix it by pressing any key on the keyboard or moving the
mouse.

Needless to say, she was pissed cause she worried about it for half a day till
I could get home and show her that it was merely a screensaver.

I felt bad about it at the time, but as she left me for another guy, I take
great joy in it now! :D

BSOD!

Having about <fingercount> 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 </fingercount> Amigas, I loved the Guru Meditation that popped up (although the GM would never pop up on the "LoadWB" screen), showing that the folks that wrote this had a rather extensive collection.

Does the BSOD Screensaver work for Mandrake 9.0? (sorry if that sounds stupid, i'm still new to Linux)

Yes, it does, just install it in your prefered window manager.

Nope, not the regular 3 cd version anyway. Maybe it comes with the pro.

Btw, guys, thanks for the amusing stories with the BSOD screensaver. :D

As a note of caution I would suggest leaving a note on the monitor telling people not to reboot the system even if it seems to have crashed. :D

Had to do this to prevent my computer from being rebooted by my ever helpful roommate or by friends everytime the screensaver started. :)

Does it come up with the proper 'OE' errors and so on?
