Dave's not here 10-27-2001, 12:48 PM In some sense they are the same. Most, if not all, winmodems are internal, but not all internal modems are winmodems. Winmodems require software on the computer to do the processing of information the modem recieves and sends. Some internal modems are available with an on-board processor that can reduce the stress on the computer's processor and speed up certain aspects of connecting and disconnecting from the internet. If you are in the market for an internal modem, get one with a built-in processor. They cost a bit more, but are more simple to operate, especially in linux. justlinux.com
