I am totally new to linux (my third day). I am running mandrake 8.2 that i got from my friend. I have asus A7N8X delux mobo with Nvidia and 3com ethernet ports. I cant for the life of me figure out how to get these recognized. I check asus website for drivers but they only had them for WinXXXX. Tried drivers from cd, but they are win drivers and obviosly dont werk(dont know y i even tried). I have been searching these forums for about and hour and found some problems that were similar but not exactly the same. If someone could please tell me what to do, where to find the drivers etc. But also how to install because altho i am fairly skilled with windows i am total n00b at linux as i dont have that much of a programming background.

Also as a side note how can i get the onboard sound recognized, because it said no sond card attached when i tried during install.

Last i have GeForce 4 mx440, that is not an option for my Mandrake 8.2. They have Gf3...GF ddr generic...gf2...etc...so should i select Gf ddr generic, or is there something else i should do.

Thank you so much to whomever helps me out cause im totally lost and have no idea what im doing. SOund and VId are lesser priorities for me, because untill i get my ethernet up and running, im stuck using winxp which makes me want to vomit on myself :-X

The nvidia interface should use the "nvnet" module/driver, and the 3Com will use either the "e100" or the "eepro100" driver.

Did you turn off Plug-N-Play OS support in your BIOS yet? If not, do that now- it very often clears up resource conflicts with sound cards and NICs in Linux.

Sorry for the short response- I'll post details on configuring the NICs when I get home from work.

A fresh install of a newer distro might very well pick up your hardware without issue. If not, we'll be here to help.

I hope u read this before spending too much time on my question.Don't sweat it. It's just that I couldn't remember the specifics off the top of my head, and was posting from a Win box (away from home) so couldn't verify the information I wanted to post. :)
