my new computer with xp home will not boot the mandrake 8.1 cd at startup. has anyone done this yet and if so i do you do it.

The OS you are running has nothing to do with booting a CD. Simply go into the BIOS and change the boot order - make sure CD-ROM is first. Then, with the Mandrake CD in the drive, it should boot. If not, there may be a problem with the CD.
