A couple of weeks ago when I was browsing at work I found a help file for installing a PCTel modem in Lycoris. At least I'm 90% sure it was at Lycoris. Now that I've downloaded and installed it I can't seem to fine the page anymore. I'll go back and look some more, but anyone more savvy than I can point me to it.............

Thanks. I'll go through it when I next have the time, in about a week. This attempt didn't work. I'll try two other PCTels I have, then switch to a hardware USR 33.6 for now. More important that I actually start using linux, instead of just downloading and an occasional install. The modem is what has always hung me up, and if I don't get it online I won't use it.
I have to mention that while I'm sure experienced users might not like Lycoris, I would recommend it to newbies who want to install into an older machine with a smaller hard drive. They have trimmed the size of the distro down and made a lot of choices for you -- good way to get started. You have to start somewhere.

uncontrary i think lycoris is a very good distro for newbs, it really helps converts from winxp since it is so similar, and eases them into it, thats the great thing about linux, then you can adjust as you get better, or stick with lycoris if you like, either way welcome to the open source world, its your choice
