I have RedHat Linux 7.1 and i have configured the graphics at 16 bpp and at 800x600.KDE has detected my ALS 400 sound card.But i cannot use sounds.What is the problem ?Do i have to load some modules at startup ?

Is the volume up? Do you have any .WAV files? If so, use the command play whatever.wav and see if it plays. Also, try the following:

chmod 666 /dev/mixer
chmod 666 /dev/dsp
chmod 666 /dev/cdrom

Then see if you can play sounds.

I also run 7.1 andI can play CD music, mealstrom, web music with no problem. But the logon tune of KDE rarely played? I have reinstalled redhat many times (for other reasons) but the logon sound still occurred unexpectedly. :confused:
