Hi,

i'm trying yo upgrade my drake 7.2 installion of glibc-xxxx to glibc-2.2.2-2mdk.i586.rpm
i installed:

1-compat-glibc-7.2-2.1.3.2mdk.i586.rpm
2-sash-3.4.4mdk.i586.rpm
3-ld.so-1.9.11-4mdk.i586.rpm
4-libcss-0.1.0-1.i686.rpm

Now when i try to install
ldconfig-2.2.2-4mdk.i586.rpm i get the following message:

"File/sbin/ldconfig from install of ld.so-2.2.2-4mdk conflicts with file with package ld.so.-1.9.11-4mdk" then i click OK and it gives another message:

"file /usr/share/man/man8/ldconfig.8.bz2 from install of ldconfig-2.2.2-4.mdk conflicts with file from package ld.so.1.9.11-4mdk"

Anyone has a clue of what i should do or know i guide to upgrade to glibc2.2 !?

Thank You!

*grins*

The second error actually tells you where the problem lies.

As I understood it to get glibc-2.2.2. in you need to have ld.so-2.1.0 minimum... but it appears you've pulled down ld.so.1.9.1.1

I suspect the glibc rpm INCLUDED the second ld.config. If you installed ld.so.1.9.1.1. AFTER the rpm, rerun the rpm install.

*grins* ... I don't have notes from my upgrade of glibc .. but I seem to recall having to get ld.so.2.1.1 ... which appears in my archive of tarballs-installed...

Hehehe...glibc is a ***** to upgrade. I tried it with my Mandrake system, and it brought the entire castle crumbling to the ground. From your original post, it says that something conflicts with another package? That means that something on your machine (in my case it was XWindows) is using something that glibc2.2 will replace. That means that when you try to start it up, it'll get mad at you and will refuse. If you're feeling extremely bold, you can run RPM with the force tag (I forget what it is...I haven't used RPM in ages and for good reason! RPM --help should do it). This will force everything to install, regardless of conflicts.
I'm not sure what Lorithar's talking about. I just had that one experience with glibc and I'm not wanting to try it again :)

Have you tried Mandrake's ftp server or http://rufus.w3.org/linux/ ?

Are you required to use the Mandrake (mdk) version?

I guess not since mandrake has no upgrade to update to glibc2.2 !?

Does Slackware 7.1 comes with Glibc 2.2 ?

Thanks!
