I wanted to install debian onto my computer and I downloaded the jigdo utility. I ran "jigdo-lite" followed by the url of the .jigdo file on a site I found on the debian site. It fired up and started downloaing a template file. As of now, its downloading around 1100 files...

But i thought that you could pick what packages you wanted to install?

Is there a way I can install the very, very, very bare minimum of packages? just enough to get the system booting into a DE so i can manually pick my packages??

Thanks
Zach

You can, but your trying to download cd1 of woody. You can do 2 things:

1. carry on downloading woody cd1 and use that to install debian, you don't have to install all the packages on it, you can get most of them through apt-get.

2. download the net install, this is only about 80mb in size, but it may not have your NIC's modules on it, so you'll have to find them on the net and put them on a floppy. (Woody cd1 should have your NIC's modules)

If you carry on downloading woody you don't have to download all 7 cds, just download cd1 then you can get everything with apt-get after.

Those 1100+ debs took forever, but in the end, it sucessfully created a nice iso, which i burned and booted into to start the installation.

It all works normally until it asks for you to select the boot media (this is so stupid its not funny). I select cdrom and the pri-master cdrom drive, then it asks for the location of rescue files...

Maybe I didnt obtain the right stuff.
