Anybody have any experience with USB based hard drive mp3 players?
I'm quite tempted to buy a D-link roq-it USB based MP3 jukebox. It says windows and mac will mount it as an external hard drive. Does that mean linux will? I have Red Hat Shrike / 9.0.

If nobody has used the roq-it, how about the RCA lyra?

Thanks -
Amos

The last I read in these JL forums searches for 'RCA lyra' (http://justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=670942&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) is it's not supported.

You could try www.google.com/linux for the same to see if there are any further developments on the RCA lyra front.

Hmmm...
Can anyone out there reccomend an mp3 player with following characteristics?

-Works with Mac, Windows, and Linux (even if drag and drop of files only)
-can be used to transfer files between all of the above (i.e. acts as
mountable external hard drive as well as mp3 player)
-10 gigs or more
-$200 or less.

And while I'm begging for help, I sure would love it if there was some way
to rip Real Audio streams to mp3... Or else play Audible type files.

p.s. I am using Red Hat Shrike (9.0) and have USB 1

save your money and get an iPod (i love mine), it meets all your criteria except price (possibly - i dunno what they cost in the US). there are even native linux clients to interface with it now (such as gtkpod) and it mounts like a scsi disk via usb or firewire depending on the model you get.
