Mandrake 8.1 Install

I bought mandrake8.1: installed it (took longer than i thought it would about 50+min)
It recognized my Radeon32mb Video card,
and my sh$tty integrated sound card.
I get through installation.
boot it up,
btw: Nice load screen,
kinda MacO/S-esk, not intended as insult.
it then brings up a X-window,
but only has my Mouse curser.
num-lock doesn't work,
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Delete,
my keyboard locks up,
mouse still works. but i'm clueless,
tempted to use another keyboard,
give that a go.

any suggestions.

What mouse and keyboard do you have ?
is it USB ? Is it some wireless stuff ?
actually you should log in into the linux without the X ( i think init level 5 - please correct me if i wrong) and run the xconfig86 (or something like that).
Hope i helped.
PS: if you boot within the installation CDROM and log in to rescue, you can do the changes without changing the init level.
