i have an old comp which i put a radeon ddr vivo into, yet when i restart i get no display whatsoever. no bios and no loading screen at all.
on windows it shows up when windows fully loads but in linux it stays blank. besides that it works perfectly fine and no probs at all.

also i just picked a real bargain, a deskstar 180gxp 80gig HD for £90.
it seems fine but every now and then makes a short scarping sound. is this normal as i've only ever had one HD and that was as noisy as a building site. i'd hate to think i wasnt getting a bargain after all.

If you get no bios info screen or loading (bootloader?) screen, then how can you boot Windows? To me that indicates something is wrong with the video signal getting through to the monitor.

yeah thats what I thought. yet windows apperas after its booted up.
so say the monitor has switched off because theres no signal, it turns back on when windows boots. And all is fine.
sometimes if i had rebooted twice i would get a garbled screen.

if i knew what it was and where to focus my attention i'd fix it.

If you replaced a video card that Linux was already configured for (the old video card), then you will need to reconfigure X for the Radeon.
