(same thing but got deleted cuzz the subject wasn't clear enuff)
m9.1, KDE 3.1

yeah i got that riptide modem combo (don't care for the modem) and i went and got the drivers for it here

i fallowed method A installing it rpm
now once i installed it the sound server error stop poping up so i thought it was fixed, yet no mixer, so it says taht sometimes you should run ripconfig to finish the install, well i found the shell script and double clicked it to start but it pops up no such program, so i wen into the mandrake control center and got this info on my sound card,

Vendor: ?Rockwell Semiconductor Systems

Bus: ?PCI

Bus identification: ?127a:4320:1235:4320

Location on the bus: ?1:8:0

Description: ?Master Riptide PCI Audio Controller

Module: ?unknown

Media class: ?MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO

so i ran the config tool for it and it said it ran it but it never poped up anything about options and such (like it does when i do it wil vid) then i thought maybe it worked so i restarted my comp but whenever i went into linux/linux secure it would stop at the consule and not give me the graphical os. so i couldn't work like taht (still learning commands) so i did fail safe and told it to load up grapical desktop and networking, but after i did i got that sound error pop up agian (does it shut down the sound in failsafe?)

so can you guys help me?

PS i've done searchs in the fourms on the web and in the docs, all i found was dead threads with no answer in them docs that were about other stuff and website that said just about nothing, i would only do this as a last resort

For some reason your driver link is not showing up. Run ripconfig from a teminal window.

first thing run terminal.

type su
enter password
no type ripconfig

try startx or kdm or gdm to get a graphical os (login as root first)

We could try continuing to work on your Riptide soundcard if you like though it may not be supported.

You seem to only one one soundcard related module loaded (soundcore) which at least is a start.

Do you see anything soundcard related in your system logfile?

less /var/log/messages
and/or
dmesg | less

Check your system resources

cat /proc/interrupts

cat /proc/ioports

to see if anything soundcard related is there.

Have you searched around for Riptide soundcard drivers or guides to configuring Linux for the Riptide?

Try www.google.com/linux

If you do get a new soundcard, the SB Live would be the most popular and well supported.
