Im trying to compile xscreensaver 3.34 from source on a slackware 8.0 system, but I dont get anywhere before i get this error...

configure: error: Your system doesn't have "bc", which has been a standard part of unix since the 1970's. Come back when your vendor has grown a clue.
could some one explain what this is, the only thing i can think of is that i dont have a certian required package installed, or that i need to pass an option during configure to point to "bc"
