1. It takes quite a bit of work to get a winmodem working. Maybe you could elaborate on your problems a little bit more? So you can't do cat /proc/whatever as root either?

2. Little more info please. So are you asking how to install those libs? Or are they already installed and not being recongnized as such?

3. Should work.

4. *.exe are windows executable files, so they won't work in linux. They may work with wine (www.winehq.com) but not certain. Games do run in linux, games that are made for linux that is.

1. the system control shows it but will not work says go to a webpage to check it out.. that is where i printed out some directions.. also on newbie.. for pci modems issure cat/proc/pci should get info then iss command "setserial/dev/tty...etc.. but can not get the first to work...

2. xine (says it plays dvd's) instructions are ./confiure the lib file and 'make all install' this appears towork ok.. then do the same for the ui-0.9.2 file but it checks all and cannot file configure file.. says before xine-ui can compile set the 'ld_library_path' to the install dir. ??? do not know how or what...

3. home networking pci phoneline kit.. 10mbps

1. Try cat /proc/pci. There is a space between ' cat ' and ' /proc/pci '.
