how can a hard drive that had windows and then mandrake 8.1 installed (supposedly the mandrake install wiped the disk clean and then installed mandrake) be wiped completely clean and show only one pure linux partition ?

a problem came up while i was trying to install rh 7.1 from the iso i burned to a cd -disk druid gave a message that there was not enough space on my 13+ gb hd (i remember looking at disk space while the mandrake was on the hd and seeing a fat32 partition remaining after the mandrake was installed).

i used my maxtor software to wipe out the the mandrake and make one large fat 32 partition thinking the rh 7.1 install would convert the fat32 over to linux ex2 (sort of like the mandrake did).

should i use a linux boot disk upfront ?would this convert fat32 to pure linux ?
(i have used partition majic under win98 to produce one large linux partition on a slave drive on the other computer; but i would rather leave the master hd where it is an somehow produce one large linux partion to start the install from).

Try deleting the fat32 partition and just leaving the whole disk as free space. Then try installing again.
