Hi

This is my first post :) w00t.

Anyways

I was wondering what hardware to go for when building a server.

This server will only do one thing, run a web page.

I want to go for amd and gigabyte for the motherboard. Is there anything I should be looking for?

Also what linux dist should I go for?

Any advice appreated, thanks

webservers mainly need just RAM, lots of RAM. half decent CPU is nice for PHP.

i personally use Gentoo for servers & everything else, mainly because i can stay up-to-date quickly without going into development.
plus gentoo goes fast.

Debian is as stable as gentoo but the software is allmost allways out of date.

Make sure you have a big enough hard drive to store all your pages, :D

ixon, in what system were you thinking about?

As for the distro, check this (http://www.distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major) to see which one fits your necessaries.
