I am interested in trying out freeBSD. I check out www.freebsd.com (http://www.freebsd.com) but all these versions numbers and stuff leave me clueless. I take it freeBSD is a pretty big OS. I was at a Linux show the other week and they were giving out free copies of it, I got there too late though and they were out . Each copy was one of those 4 disc holders so it must have been at least 3 discs, probably 4. And the powerpack that you can buy is ten! I got cable so I don't really care how much I have to download. I was just wondering if someone could give me a site where they mirror CD images of them and which ones I should be downloading. Thanks.

FreeBSD isn't any bigger than Linux.
Check out www.freebsd.org (http://www.freebsd.org) for all the information you need. Another good site is www.defcon1.org (http://www.defcon1.org)

Sorry as it's just a url I had saved in my Favorites for when someone asks where to get a iso of a distribution. I've never had to d/l from there myself.
When I saw your original post, I checked to see if FreeBSD was available at linuxiso and just posted the link.

I started mucking around with FreeBSD last week. Without having done any research, I am under the impression that I cannot install it on logical volumes within an extended partition. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance.
