i just installed a SMC1211TX NIC card...its running mandrake 8.0 on a P200MMX
when i boot the machine the kudzu hardware detection detects the card correctly...if i click on 'configure device', the hd grinds a little & then the screen blanks and just hangs there...i can press ctrl+alt+del and it switches to the reboot runlevel...but when it reboots it detects the card again, so it's not configuring it...i installed a sound card earlier on it today, & it picked it up & configured it without any problems...why would it be doing this with the nic card.
can i skip the kudzu configuring and configure the card manually? how do i do this? this page http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/network/nicmodules.html tells me that the card im using, SMC 1211TX (PCI) uses the rt18139 driver...which someone told me would work well with linux...thanks for any help!
