Alright, I looking for an cheap external modem for Linux and I find that they can get expensive! So I was looking on Ebay for one and I found some great deals... On pratically new ones for resoniable cheap. I looked at there record it is all good two... Is it safe to buy external modems from people on Ebay? LoL. And if the modems dont come with any software could Linux Detect it? and one last question. Does it matter if the modem is Serial or USB? will it still detect it?
Thanks for you time.

External modem being one that you hook up serially is your best bet. Ebay is like anything else, there's good people and bad people. I've never had any problems on ebay. If you get a USB then it will need software or a driver to work, the serial external modems DO NOT require software, unlike a WINmodem. Have a nice day.

They would definitly work in linux. If you can find it, I reccomend the Diamond SupraExpress 56Ke Serial. Very nice.
