XMMS - adding mp3 problems

hi and hello to all!

i am running the most up to date XMMS as it came stock with RH8. i have tried multiple times to add mp3s, but it just doesn't work. i use the add file menu and it acts like i did nothing. is there something i am doing wrong?

all versions of red hat from 8 on do not come with MP3 support. you have to add it yourself.

so a search on the forum and you will find many threads explaining how to add MP3 support to red hat.
